Hello, I'm glad you stopped by!
I work in a range of mediums, but I've especially been enjoying the immediacy and suspense of working with printmaking for the last few years. I love building multiple layers in my prints by creating marks with natural materials, everyday household objects and traditional brushes. These "monoprint paintings" are a hybrid between traditional and non-traditional techniques, which is the sweet spot I like to live in.
I studied design and sculpture in my undergrad at Anderson University in Indiana and James Cook University in Townsville, Australia. I worked as a teaching artist in New York, NY leading workshops for students and teachers integrating art into their curriculum. I was also a Chashama studio artist. I now work and live in Los Angeles where I'm the Artist in Residence at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church and I also teach high school art along with pursuing my professional art practice. You can find my full bio , CV and full portfolio in these pages.
MAY 14th, Opening Reception:
To bloom implies growing, expanding and moving outward in a state of beauty and fruition. Rather than requiring ideal locations and perfect conditions, it involves force and power. Susan Springer Anderson and Liberty Worth create with energy, persistence and tenacity - they push for the moments of fruitfulness and press into what is coming ahead. Both artists are Los Angeles based, working in mixed media. They teach art together at a local high school and are also wives, mothers and business owners. Join them for an evening of art & community!
May 21st, Artist Talk
Join artists Liberty Worth and Susan Springer Anderson for a relaxed conversation about their work, careers and the genesis for this show. Coffee & tea will be served. Please consider bringing your own mug, or purchase one of our art mugs at the event to help us reduce our carbon footprint for the show!
Physical materials such as weathered cement, loose weave fabrics and silken paint feed my mind with inspiration to draw from. I also appreciate the subtle shift in light between times of day as it casts particular highlights and shadows to dance on my walls.
Along with painting and printmaking, I also work in sculpture, community art making, teaching, set design, leather and bookmaking. Check out my full portfolio here.
